Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride

[15.05.24]

On 14th July Andrew will join 24 other lycra-clad legends on a Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride.  They will be cycling the 100km with a crack squad of cycling enthusiasts to raise money for The Christie.  The organiser, Chris Syddall gave us an insight into the Bike Ride and his motivation for raising funds for The Christie.

Cheadle Hulme based serial entrepreneur, Chris Syddall, has been raising funds for various charities for the last 15 years.  He ramped up his charitable endeavours last year as part of his 60th birthday celebrations.  Part of that was joining The Christie Challenge, which encourages fundraisers to undertake six challenges over a year, each raising at least £60.  One of Chris’s challenges was the Tres Picos in Spain – climbing the three highest peaks in the Sierra Nevada on a three day trek.  He was joined by 20 other fundraisers, including the CEO of The Christie, who explained that the focus of The Christie Challenge was to raise at least £60, because the average distance a patient will travel to access The Christie is 60 miles.  This has spurred Chris on to raise further funds for The Christie, in recognition of how lucky he feels to have The Christie on his doorstep.

In relation to the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride, Chris comments that the team of 25 cyclists are all of varying fitness levels, ages and sizes!  If last year’s Bike Ride is anything to go by, Andrew will be one of the leaders of the pack!  We await photographic evidence!  If you would like to support Andrew, Chris and the rest of the cycling team, click here.

Hopefully Chris’s legs will have recovered in time for the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride, as he is also undertaking the Big Battlefield Bike Ride from 24th June to 29th June, raising funds for Help for Heroes. Chris will be joined by five friends to cycle 250 miles to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings and to remember the sacrifices made by brave servicemen and women.  To support Chris on this mammoth cycle ride click here.
