The Government has been muttering about Making Tax Digital for a few years; but they have confirmed that April 2019 will see the first wave of Making Tax Digital. This will affect all VAT registered businesses whose turnover is over the VAT threshold. We would urge all clients to prepare now for the April 2019 deadline.
Making Tax Digital is the Government’s project name for moving the tax records of all businesses and individuals onto the cloud. This will require all businesses to use an approved cloud accounting system, which enables a direct upload of their information to HMRC. In a nutshell from April 2019 you must upload your VAT return from a cloud accounting system directly into your Government Gateway account. As a result you will need to have been fully using your cloud accounting system for at least the VAT quarter prior to April.
We can help you move over to any of the approved cloud accounting systems, including Xero and Sage. However, our preferred system is QuickBooks. We are ProAdvisors and Platinum Partners of QuickBooks.
As well as meeting the Government’s requirements, there are many additional benefits to using QuickBooks, such as providing you with real time data on how your business is performing. We are running a series of QuickBooks Workshops, to support you in the transition over to QuickBooks, ensuring that you get the most from this cloud accounting software.
